Why free?
I need a portfolio. You need a website.
I run Sutherland Cyber, a one-person web design and security studio on the Lincolnshire coast. The work is good, but a new studio needs something no amount of advertising buys: real local businesses on the books, with real sites I can point at.
So this is the trade. I build you a proper website, the same standard my paying clients get, and run it free for a full year. In return, I get to show your site as my work, and if you are happy with it, I will ask for an honest Google review. That is the whole arrangement.
It is limited to a handful of businesses, because every site is built properly, by hand, by me. When the spots are gone, they are gone.

UK hosting with daily backups, monitoring and the same security hardening every paid build gets, including protection against criminals sending email as you.
After the year: £49 a month, or walk away
If you love it, keep it for £49 a month with hosting and care included. If not, walk away and take the site, domain and content with you. No contract, no hard feelings.

The honest answers
- Is it really free?
- Yes, genuinely. No setup fee, no hosting fee, no cost for the domain or email, nothing to pay for twelve months. The only thing it costs you is a bit of time telling me about your business so the site is right.
- What is the catch?
- There is no hidden one. I am building my portfolio with real local businesses, so in return I ask two things: permission to show your site as an example of my work, and if you are happy with it, an honest Google review. That is the whole deal.
- What happens after the year?
- You choose. Keep the site for £49 a month with hosting, care and support included, month to month with no contract. Or walk away with everything: the site, the domain and the content are yours either way, and I will help you move them.
- Who can apply?
- Local small businesses, and only a handful of them. I am based on the Lincolnshire coast, so local firms come first. I pick businesses where I know I can do work worth showing, so tell me what you do and what you need.
- Do I own the website?
- Yes, completely. The site, the domain and the content are yours from day one. There is no lock-in and no ransom if you leave after the free year. That is not true of every builder, so it is worth asking whoever you speak to.
- How quickly would it be live?
- Most sites are live within about a week of agreeing what you need. Bigger sites take a little longer, and you will have a clear timeline from the start.
