Why speed matters

No scare statistics, just the two things a slow site quietly costs you.

Nobody waits for a slow website. A visitor taps your link, watches a blank screen a moment too long, and goes back to the results to try the next business. You never hear about it.

Google notices too. Speed feeds into its rankings, measured from real visits rather than a lab test. Nobody outside Google knows how much it counts, so I will not pretend to. But slow works against you twice: with the visitor, then with the ranking.

What gets checked

The usual suspects, one by one, each reported back in a plain sentence.

  • Images: nearly always the biggest culprit. Too large, barely compressed, or all loading at once.
  • Hosting: where the site is served from, and how quickly the server answers.
  • Code weight: scripts, fonts and plugins the page carries but barely uses.
  • Core Web Vitals: the measurements Google takes of real visits, explained in plain terms.

Common questions

Will this help my Google ranking?
Honestly: it can, but speed is one factor among many, and nobody outside Google knows the weight each one carries. A tune-up removes a handicap: a slow site gives visitors a reason to leave and Google a reason to prefer someone else, and fixing it takes both excuses away. It is not a rocket, and anyone selling it as one is guessing.
How long does it take?
The check itself is quick; how long the fixes take depends on what turns up, so I will not invent a figure before I have looked. Once I have, you get a real answer: what needs doing and when, agreed before any work starts.
My site is hosted elsewhere, can you still do it?
Yes. The tune-up is £99 wherever your site lives, and most fixes do not need the site to move. One honest caveat: if the check shows the hosting itself is the bottleneck, I will say so plainly rather than polish around it. Moving to my hosting is free if you then want it, with no pressure either way.
